Heat Safety Tips

1. Stay Hydrated:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol as they can dehydrate you.

2. Stay Indoors:

  • Whenever possible, stay in an air-conditioned place.
  • If your home does not have air conditioning, visit a cooling center or public places such as libraries or shopping malls.

3. Dress Appropriately:

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
  • Avoid dark colors, as they can absorb heat.

4. Avoid Strenuous Activities:

  • Reduce, eliminate, or reschedule outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
  • If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in a cool or shaded area.

5. Use Fans and Cool Cloths:

  • Use fans to circulate air.
  • Place cool cloths on your neck, wrists, and other pulse points to help lower your body temperature.

6. Check on Others:

  • Look out for those who are more vulnerable to the heat, including the elderly, children, and those with chronic medical conditions.

7. Know the Signs of Heat-Related Illnesses:

  • Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, such as heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headache.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if you or someone else shows signs of heat stroke.
